Achieving Sweet Success during the Summer Slump

Well sweet peeps, summer is near!

Usually, this is the time of the year that most (non seasonal) businesses will notice a decrease in sales.

Now that all the graduation parties have officially ended and the little rugrats that your clients birthed are now at home more often, some folks tend to spend less than normal in order to save for family trips, additional day care fees and more.

So what can you do to ensure that you still have sweet success during the summer slump?

#3 Hold a Contest or Offer a "Check In" Special

“Checking in” is a feature that too many sweet peeps don’t take advantage. Even if you run a home based business, your clients can check in when they pick up from you. When a consumer marks “Checking In” on Facebook, it appears on their timeline. This means that everyone in their friends list is now able to view your business information which in turn is free exposure for your business. Who doesn’t like free marketing?? People buy from businesses who they feel have been validated by their friends/family. Seeing one of their friends “check in” at your business shows that you are a brand that they enjoy shopping with and can trust. This feature can be done with Yelp users also.

#4 Focus on building your brand.

Take advantage of this down time. This is a perfect chance to get out into your community and introduce people to your brand. Have you updated your pricing? If you don't review prices every quarter than the half of year mark is a great chance to do so. If you are new then look for a class that will show you the fundamentals of pricing, take that time to invest in yourself and learn. Pricing is one of the first things that should actually be nailed down before you even advertise that you're open for business. No matter how good a recipe or how much feedback your photos get it doesn't mean anything if you don’t even know if you are turning a profit.

#5 Host a Summer Camp for Kids.

For those who have store fronts, this is a great way for you to meet local parents as well as their kids. Do fun recipes such as oreo truffles, decorating sugar cookies or even cake pops (just make the dough for them beforehand). Kids love anything that requires rolling and getting a little dirty. Show them how you bake it, decorate with them and let them make an arrangement for mom and dad. You can have weekly camps where kids can for visit an entire week, or just have day camps on the weekends to give parents a break.
